Motif launched its first wearable breast pump, called Motif Aura, on April 3, 2023, entering the growing market of wearables. However, mothers faced issues with the flange, comfort, and features that didn’t always align with the realities of everyday mom life.

In response, Motif updated it and introduced the Motif Aura Glow at the start of 2025, highlighting a new feature: a built-in light for nighttime pumping. But does the addition of a nightlight truly address the biggest pain points moms experienced with the original?

Are the tweaks to pumping modes and usability enough to resolve the comfort and practicality issues, or do some challenges still remain? And ultimately, is the Motif Aura Glow worth considering at its price point, or are its improvements too minor to make a difference?

In this review, you’ll find a research-driven, critical look at whether the Motif Aura Glow genuinely fills those gaps—and if it’s really worth the investment.

Quick Overview

E

Included:

8/10

The pump comes with a comprehensive set of accessories, including two complete pump units, multiple flange sizes (15mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm), and dust covers for hygiene.

E

Design:

7/10

The Motif Aura Glow has a slim and discreet profile compared to its predecessor, but it still creates noticeable bulk under clothing. The bright lights on the motor are practical for nighttime use but can feel gimmicky in other settings.

E

Comfort:

8/10

The soft silicone flanges are a significant improvement over the original Motif Aura, offering better comfort and fit. However, the flexible material can cause pinching for some users, especially those with elastic tissue.

E

Suction:

7/10

The suction is powerful when the battery is fully charged, with settings up to 270 mmHg. However, the motor slows down at higher suction levels, and the flat flange design may not stimulate milk flow effectively for all users.

E

Maintenance:

8/10

Replacement parts are affordable and often covered by insurance, but the motor’s durability is a concern. Milk can leak into the motor if the seal isn’t perfect, potentially causing long-term issues.

E

Battery:

6/10

The pump lasts for 3-4 sessions on a full charge, which is adequate but requires frequent recharging for heavy users. The motor’s performance noticeably declines when the battery drops to one bar.

E

Cleaning:

7/10

While the parts are easy to disassemble and clean, the collection cups have shapes that trap milk, making it tricky to pour and clean thoroughly. Silicone parts also attract dust and hair, requiring extra care.

E

Noise Level:

8/10

The pump is quiet, producing a soft hum that won’t disturb a sleeping baby or draw attention in public. It’s quieter than many competitors, making it ideal for discreet use.

E

Support:

8/10

Motif has a good reputation for honoring warranties and providing replacements for faulty parts. However, dealing with replacements can still be inconvenient for mothers relying on the pump daily.

E

Ease of Use:

7/10

The button-based operation is straightforward, and the light feature is helpful for nighttime pumping. However, the pump requires a very tight bra fit for optimal performance, and the opaque flange makes alignment challenging.

What's in the Box?

Unboxing the Aura Glow feels comprehensive. Inside, you’ll find two motor hubs and two 6-ounce collection cups, along with the necessary (24mm) silicone breast shields and diaphragms, the basics every wearable provides.

However, Motif deserves praise for including a wide range of nipple inserts (15mm, 17mm, 19mm, and 21mm), which helps moms find their proper size without buying extra parts. You also get dust covers, which are an underrated accessory for keeping the flanges clean when you’re on the go.

Suction

Motif markets the Aura Glow as having “hospital strength” suction, mentioned about 280mmHg. In the test, with an expression mode range of 115–270 mmHg, which is great. This pump also offers different modes, except the standard stimulation and expression mode, to cater to a bit more needs of the moms, with just using them instead of playing with buttons or doing math with the time and modes, so that the purpose of the wearable can be met more fully.

There are four modes of pumping. The stimulation, expression, general pumping, and cluster one. The first two are the same as every other wearable, while the “General Pumping Mode” is like the mixed mode in some other wearables, and is convenient for “lazy” pumping, as it automatically alternates between two minutes of massage mode (to stimulate letdown) and several minutes of expression mode (to extract milk). This cycle repeats twice during a session, aiming to mimic the natural rhythm of a baby nursing and to trigger multiple letdowns in one session.

The “Cluster Feeding” is intended to stimulate milk production by mimicking the frequent, irregular nursing patterns of a baby during growth spurts or cluster feeding phases, but here it might be a bit of a marketing gimmick, as it may not fully replicate the benefits of traditional power pumping. It’s more of a convenience feature for mothers who want to encourage an extra letdown without manually adjusting settings.

Discretion: Design and Noise

If you’re looking for a pump that disappears under your clothes, this isn’t it.

Design (The "Fembot" Look)

The Aura Glow is a bit bulky and square in shape, creating an unnatural “robo-boob” silhouette that is obvious under anything but a very loose, chunky sweater. The bright lights on top of the motor have earned it the nickname “fembot.” While the glow is surprisingly practical for checking your milk volume in the dark, it definitely draws attention.

Noise

This is where the Aura Glow gets more good remarks. It is one of the quietest pumps available, producing just a soft hum. You can pump next to a sleeping baby, on a conference call, or in a quiet office without anyone noticing the sound. If noise level is your top priority with respect to price point, this pump can be a good choice.

Battery Life & Charging

The battery performance of motif aura glow wearable breast pump is below average. A full charge will get you about three to four pumping sessions, completing the total pumping time mentioned by the company, which is 90 minutes.

However, the most critical flaw is that the performance degrades before the battery dies. Once you hit that last battery bar, suction power plummets. You effectively have less usable time than the indicator suggests.

With two motors to manage, you have to be strategic about plugging them in to ensure you’re never caught with a low battery when you need to pump.

Ease of Use

Operating

The physical buttons are simple and intuitive. The companion app, however, is essentially a glorified timer. You can use it to control the pump, but it requires you to manually switch modes and doesn’t offer the smart tracking features found in competitors like Elvie.

Assembling/Disassembling

The pump has five parts to clean and assemble: the motor, cup, flange, valve, and diaphragm. The connections are finicky. You must ensure the duckbill valve and diaphragm are perfectly seated, or you will have little to no suction.

Cleaning

The silicone parts are a magnet for dust, lint, and moisture, requiring careful inspection before each use. The shape of the collection cup also tends to trap milk, making it difficult to pour out every drop.

The Comfort Factor: Fit and Feel

Comfort is deeply personal, but the Motif Aura Glow makes notable strides here compared to the Motif Aura.

This updated model comes with soft, high-quality silicone flanges similar to those found in the Eufy pump, which many mothers have praised for their comfort and flexibility.

The inclusion of multiple flange sizes and improved material is a significant upgrade from the older Aura, whose inserts were criticized for their stiffness and low quality.

Does it leak?

Like most wearable pumps on the market—except for the Willow 360—the Aura Glow can leak if it isn’t properly secured or if you move around too much while wearing it.

This is a common reality with almost all wearable pumps: an imperfect seal or a sudden shift can lead to spills, so you’ll need to take the same precautions here as you would with other similar pumps.

Durability and Warranty

The Aura Glow’s durability is a major concern. The motor is estimated to last only 200–250 hours. For an exclusively pumping mom, that could mean the motor starts to fail in as little as three months. The pump’s Achilles’ heel is the risk of milk backflow into the motor, which can destroy the suction permanently.

The pump comes with a generous 2-year warranty on the motor and a 90-day warranty on parts. This provides some peace of mind, but dealing with a replacement in the middle of your pumping journey is an added stress.

Customer Support

Motif generally receives positive feedback for its customer support. The company is known for being responsive and quickly sending replacement parts or entire units when design flaws are reported. If you get your pump through a provider like Aeroflow, you may even receive free replacement parts on a monthly basis, which helps offset the durability concerns.

Price

The value of the Aura Glow depends entirely on how you acquire it.

  • Cash Price (~$200): If you are paying out of pocket, this pump might seem overpriced. There are other wearables on the market (like the Eufy, Momcozy or Zomee) that offer better or more consistent performance for a lower price.
  • Insurance Price (Free): If your insurance covers the cost, it’s an excellent value. The flaws are much more forgivable when the pump is a free secondary option for mobility.

So, Is It for You?

The Motif Aura Glow might be a good fit for you IF:

  • You are an oversupplier who needs the large 6-ounce capacity.
  • You are getting the pump for free through insurance.
  • You need a very quiet, secondary pump for occasional use during travel or work.

You should probably look elsewhere IF:

  • You have elastic nipples.
  • You need a primary, workhorse pump for exclusive pumping.
  • You need to bend over frequently while pumping (hello, moms of toddlers!).
  • You are paying with your own money and expect consistent, reliable performance.

Final Verdict

The Motif Aura Glow is a quiet powerhouse in terms of capacity, but stumbles on the fundamentals of consistent performance and ergonomic design.

It’s best viewed as a fantastic secondary pump—the one you keep in your work bag or use for a dinner out when freedom is the priority. As a “free” pump through insurance, its benefits are worth getting it.

However, it is not a replacement for a reliable wall pump like a Spectra. If you’re spending your own hard-earned money, there are more dependable and user-friendly wearables out there that are less likely to leave you frustrated and covered in spilled milk.
